Green Dresser – Before

I found this dresser just before it was put to pasture. The drawers are solid oak and dovetailed. This combination makes for a solid long lasting drawer. The drawers were cleaned, re-glued, and a coat of polyurethane were used to bring them back to  life. New sides were made and installed and then the entire carcass was sealed and painted a metallic green. The drawer faces were covered with quarter-sawn oak and the new custom vertical pulls are made from solid mahogany.

This treasure was sitting in a friend’s house (he also found it in an alley) being used as a storage cabinet. His wife was looking for a new bathroom vanity for increased storage. He saw my first vanity and wanted to do the same with this cabinet.

Sylvania Console TV: After

It was stripped down to bare wood and in order to have the proper height for a vanity, half of the speaker area was cut away. Due to the construction of the cabinet, it just made sense to turn the speaker area into a drawer. The custom countertop is pea gravel covered with a thick layer of epoxy to give it the feel of a riverbed.

Freed Radio: After

To turn this into a functioning vanity sink, the width was narrowed seven inches, veneer repaired, and the front panel was turned into a door for storage underneath the sink. Once reconstruction was complete, the entire unit was coated in polyurethane.
